Virginia National Guard members at the rank of O-6 and below can subtract up to $5,500 (or pay for 39 training days, whichever is less) in Guard pay from their Virginia state income taxes. This applies to both active and inactive (weekend drill and annual training) service.
Restrictions
Ranks O-7 and above are excluded. Guard members on active duty 90+ consecutive days may also separately qualify for the $15,000 basic pay exemption.
