Veterans applying for state-aided public housing (elderly/disabled or family units) receive preference over non-veterans in tenant selection. Within the veteran category, priority goes first to families of disabled veterans with service-connected disability, then families of veterans whose death was service-connected, then other veterans.
Restrictions
Governed by M.G.L. ch. 121B and expanded by Ch. 141 of the Acts of 2016. Preference now covers non-local-resident veterans (not just Massachusetts residents). For veterans with 100% disability, monthly disability compensation above $1,800 is excluded from rent calculations.
