MaineHousing (the Maine State Housing Authority) offers active-duty service members, honorably discharged veterans, and retired military a 0.50% discount off their already low First Home Loan 30-year fixed interest rate. The SaluteME option is for first-time buyers; Salute Home Again waives the first-time buyer requirement for veterans who previously owned a home. Combines with $5,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance through the Advantage program.
Restrictions
Must have served on active duty for at least 180 days or within a war zone (National Guard members who meet this qualify). Income and home purchase price limits apply but most Maine households and homes are eligible. $5,000 Advantage down payment assistance requires a hoMEworks homebuyer education course.
