Veterans and surviving spouses who already receive a VA pension and need help with daily tasks, like bathing, dressing, eating, or getting around, can receive an additional monthly payment on top of their base pension. There are two tiers: Aid and Attendance (for those needing regular help from another person or living in a nursing home) and Housebound (for those mostly confined to their home due to a permanent disability). These are not separate pensions, they are add-ons that increase the monthly pension amount.
Restrictions
Veterans must already qualify for VA pension before applying for these supplements. The page lists two benefit tiers: Aid and Attendance (higher payment, for those needing personal care assistance or in a nursing home) and Housebound (lower payment, for those substantially confined to their immediate premises). Survivors who receive Survivors Pension also may qualify. Apply using VA Form 21-2680.
