Spouses (including surviving spouses) of veterans and Gold Star Parents of veterans killed on active duty may be admitted to Wisconsin state veterans homes for skilled nursing care, even without the veteran being present. As of March 2024, a spouse may now be admitted before the veteran if they lived together for at least 6 months prior to application.
Restrictions
Spouses must be permanently incapacitated due to physical disability or age from substantially gainful employment. Rule change effective March 25, 2024 allows spouse admission before veteran under certain conditions.
