Surviving spouses and dependent children (under 26) of West Virginia veterans killed in action or who died as a direct result of wartime service have their tuition and mandatory fees waived at any West Virginia public college or university. The program also provides up to $1,000 per semester (max $2,000 per year) for room, board, books, and living expenses. The veteran must have designated West Virginia as their state of record at enlistment.
Restrictions
Students must be at least 16 but not older than 25 (surviving spouses are exempt from the age cap). Apply through the WV Department of Veterans Assistance. Application deadlines: August 31 for fall, January 31 for spring.
