Details

Many community colleges and 4-year schools incorrectly tell GI Bill students they cannot also receive federal Pell Grants, SEOG, or other Title IV need-based aid. This is FALSE under federal law, Title IV aid is need-based and the GI Bill is a benefit, not a "resource" that counts against need. Veterans should fill out a FAFSA every year and stack Pell + GI Bill.

Restrictions

The thread documents two-year-plus misadvising at EPCC + UTEP costing the OP GI Bill months. If your school's VA office tells you "you can't use Pell with the GI Bill," escalate to the financial-aid office (not the VA office), they're the actual Title IV authority. Get the policy in writing. Worth filing a complaint with the VA School Certifying Official audit channel if the school keeps insisting
