New York State reserves up to 500 state government positions for veterans with a service-connected disability of 10% or more (or any Purple Heart recipient). These veterans can be hired without taking a Civil Service examination, they only need to meet the minimum qualifications for the position.
Restrictions
Authorized by Section 55-c of the New York State Civil Service Law. Applicants need a VA letter certifying at least 10% disability rating OR Purple Heart. Eligible veterans are not guaranteed placement, must still apply to specific positions. Apply for a Letter of Eligibility through the Civil Service website.
