Details

Veterans who served 90+ days of active duty and were honorably discharged receive hiring preference over equally qualified non-veterans for Michigan state government jobs. The preference extends to surviving spouses of veterans, spouses of veterans with 50%+ disability, and active-duty members within six months of expected honorable discharge. State employees who are veterans can now also use preference for promotional postings, and military retirees are eligible.

Restrictions

Register with the Michigan Civil Service Commission to use the preference. Full rules at MCL Chapter 35. Questions to MCSC-Compensation@michigan.gov.
