Details

North Dakota veterans get a legally enforceable priority when applying for any state or local government job. Disabled veterans go to the front of the line, if they meet minimum qualifications, they must be hired unless the agency can document a specific written justification. Non-disabled veterans also get preference over non-veterans. Five points are added to a non-disabled veteran's exam score; ten points for a disabled veteran. The preference extends to spouses of disabled veterans (if the veteran cannot use it themselves) and unremarried surviving spouses.

Restrictions

Governed by NDCC 37-19.1-02. Applies to all government agencies. Veterans can appeal non-selection within 15 days by certified mail to the Commissioner of Veterans Affairs. Currently serving members within 120 days of honorable discharge also qualify.
