Texas law requires state agencies to give hiring preference to veterans (and certain qualifying family members) when filling state government positions. Veterans move ahead of non-veterans in the hiring queue when candidates are equally qualified.

Restrictions

Governed by Texas Government Code Chapter 657. Covers: veterans (including those with disabilities), unmarried surviving spouses of veterans, orphans of veterans killed on active duty, spouses of active-duty members, and spouses of veterans with a 70%+ disability rating who are the primary household income source.
