Texas veterans are entitled by state law to a hiring preference over equally or less qualified applicants for any state agency job. Veterans with disabilities get first priority. If the position requires a competitive exam, qualifying veterans receive 10 bonus points added to their score; disabled veterans get an additional 5 points on top of that.
Restrictions
Covers all Texas state agencies. Priority order: (1) veterans with a disability, (2) veterans, (3) spouses of active-duty members or veterans with 70%+ disability, (4) unmarried surviving spouses, (5) orphans of veterans killed on active duty.
