Details
Veterans applying for open-competitive Hawaii state government jobs get preference points added to their exam scores: 5 points for honorably discharged veterans, and 10 points for disabled veterans (service-connected disability or Purple Heart recipients). The surviving spouse of an eligible veteran may also claim 10 points.
Restrictions
Preference applies only to open-competitive recruitments, not promotional exams. Submit DD-214 (Member 4) for 5-point preference; submit a current VA or service-branch statement (dated within past 12 months) for 10-point preference. Surviving spouse must also submit marriage/death documentation.
