Veterans applying for West Virginia state government jobs receive 5 extra points added to their passing exam score. Veterans with a current service-connected disability or who have received a Purple Heart receive an additional 5 points (10 total). Proof of service via the DD-214 form is required. As of June 2023, applicants no longer need to provide specific conflict dates.
Restrictions
Preference points do not apply to promotional exams, only open competitive exams. Disability must be verified by a letter from the federal Department of Veterans Affairs. More at personnel.wv.gov.
