Details

Colorado law allows private employers to adopt a formal veterans preference hiring policy, giving qualified veterans and their spouses a leg up when they are equally qualified as other applicants. Employers who formally adopt and publish such a policy are protected from discrimination claims. Veterans with 100% disability have a 10-year preference window from discharge; all other veterans and Guard/Reserve members have a 5-year window.

Restrictions

Applies to private (non-government) employers. The policy must be in writing, publicly posted, and applied uniformly. Employers may also advertise specifically to recruit veterans. Note: the act is set to repeal September 1, 2029 unless renewed.
