Iowa Veterans Employment Preference
Iowa Veterans Employment Preference (Civil Service)
Iowa law gives honorably discharged veterans and their surviving spouses preference in state government hiring.
Details
Iowa law gives honorably discharged veterans and their surviving spouses preference in state government hiring. Veterans who pass a civil service exam get additional points added to their score, giving them a competitive edge over non-veteran applicants for state jobs.
Restrictions
Governed by Iowa Code. Preference applies to initial hiring, not promotions. Surviving spouses of veterans who died in service or from service-connected causes may also qualify.
