Mississippi runs the Housing Unit for Military Veterans (HUM-V) at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility, the only state in the country where the statewide incarcerated veterans program is run by the state veterans affairs board. Participants in their final 12-18 months of incarceration receive counseling, job training, and skills development. The program has a 4% recidivism rate compared to the state's 38.4%.

Restrictions

Program includes vocational training in nine trade areas through the Veterans Career Education and Training Center (V-CET). Entry requires declaration as a good candidate and transfer to the facility.
