The Texas Hazlewood Act lets qualifying Texas veterans attend public colleges and universities in Texas without paying tuition or most fees, for up to 150 credit hours. Veterans who have hours left over can transfer them to a child under the Hazlewood Legacy program.

Restrictions

Must have been a Texas resident at enlistment, served at least 181 days of active duty, separated under conditions other than dishonorable, and not exhausted federal education benefits that would cover 100% of tuition. Child transfers (Legacy) require the veteran to have unused hours and the child must be 25 or younger.
