New York State's "Experience Counts" program lets veterans apply their military training toward civilian professional licenses and certifications without repeating training they already have. Covered licenses include Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), armed/unarmed security guard, home health aide, crane operator, and more, about 13 license types total.

Restrictions

CDL road test waiver applies to military members with relevant heavy vehicle experience. SUNY and CUNY campuses also recognize military training credits. Contact NYS DOL at dva@labor.ny.gov or a local Labor Veterans Representative.
