Veterans who took honorable discharge from the US Armed Forces get additional credit (points) added to their New York State Civil Service exam scores, giving them a competitive edge for state government job placements. Additional credits apply for veterans with service-connected disabilities.
Restrictions
Authorized by Section 85 of the Civil Service Law. Exam preference points also help with retention priority if positions are eliminated. Separate from the 55-c direct-hire program. Contact NY Department of Civil Service for details.
