Details

Honorably discharged veterans (or their unmarried surviving spouse or pensioned parent) can exclude up to $4,000 in property value from taxation. The catch: you can't own more than $5,000 in total property ($10,000 if married), so homeowners usually don't qualify, but veterans with only a vehicle, boat, or small personal property may benefit.

Restrictions

Annual filing required by February 15 each year with county assessor. Statute: Revenue and Taxation Code §205.
