North Dakota offers low-interest loans of up to $8,000 to veterans and un-remarried surviving spouses who need a financial bridge. The interest rate is 8% per year, with repayment terms from 6 to 48 months. If the loan is repaid on schedule, half of the interest paid is refunded to the borrower, effectively cutting the real cost.
Restrictions
Must be a North Dakota resident for at least one year and demonstrate ability to repay. Eligible for peacetime veterans, wartime veterans, reservists, and National Guard members (as defined in NDCC 37-14-01.1). Apply through a local VSO. Loan limit raised from $5,000 to $8,000 by HB 1135 in 2025.
