Any honorably discharged Illinois veteran can have the word "Veteran" added to their driver's license or state ID card by presenting a DD-214 or equivalent discharge document at any Secretary of State facility. Adding the designation at scheduled renewal is free; adding it early costs $5 for a license or $10 for a state ID ($0 for veterans over 65).
Restrictions
The designation can be used as proof of veteran status for other benefits. The Secretary of State verifies the DD-214 with IDVA.
