Vermont homeowners who receive VA disability compensation, death compensation, or pension for at least 50% disability are eligible for a property tax exemption of up to $10,000 of assessed home value. Towns may vote to increase this exemption up to $40,000. Spouses, widows, and widowers of qualifying veterans are also eligible. A one-time application is required before May 1 of the first year claimed.
Restrictions
Only one exemption allowed per property. Permanent disability = one-time filing only; exemption stays on grand list until property transfers.
