Since 2012, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has waived tolls on TxDOT-operated toll roads for vehicles registered in Texas and displaying a qualifying specialty license plate.

Since 2012, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has waived tolls on TxDOT-operated toll roads for vehicles registered in Texas and displaying a qualifying specialty license plate. Qualifying plates include the Disabled Veteran plate (for veterans with 50%+ service-connected disability or 40% due to lower-extremity amputation), as well as plates for Medal of Honor recipients, Purple Heart recipients, and several other military honors. Tolls are waived only on TxDOT-operated roads, not privately operated toll facilities.
Restrictions
The vehicle must be registered in Texas with the qualifying plate. Only applies to TxDOT-operated roads. Veterans must first obtain the qualifying plate through TxDMV before tolls are waived. Purple Heart and Medal of Honor holders also qualify.
