Virginia operates three state veterans cemeteries (Amelia, Suffolk, and Dublin) offering free burial services. Virginia does not charge any burial fees and has no residency requirement, making these cemeteries available to any eligible veteran nationwide. Guard and Reserve members are also eligible. Spouses of veterans are buried at no fee paid by the family (state covers it).

Restrictions

Three locations: Virginia Veterans Cemetery (Amelia), Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery (Suffolk), Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery (Dublin). Virginia was the first state to bury a Reserve Component member under the federal Burial Equity for Guard and Reserve Act of 2021.
