Space-Available (Space-A) travel lets eligible service members, retirees, and family members fly on DoD-funded military aircraft anywhere they're flying — to/from CONUS, OCONUS, around the world. Free or near-free (typically $20-$40 administrative fee). Six eligibility categories from Cat I (emergency leave active-duty) through Cat VI (retirees). Bring an ID, sign up at a passenger terminal, wait for an open seat.

How to access

Restrictions

Sign up via spacea.net or amc.af.mil/AMC-Travel-Site. Sign up 60 days out — your position is timestamped, but seats fill by category priority. Active-duty on Cat III can fly stand-by free for environmental morale leave. Retirees on Cat VI can fly worldwide (Germany, Japan, Korea, Italy, UK) — popular hub: Andrews AFB → Ramstein Germany. Plan flexibility is mandatory; same-day cancellations happen.
