Veterans with a 40% or greater service-connected disability rating from the VA can buy a New York State hunting, fishing, or trapping license for just $5. After the first license purchase in a calendar year, additional license types that year are free. Free bowhunting and muzzleloading privileges are also included.

Restrictions

Must provide a VA letter confirming 40%+ disability rating to a license issuing agent once; after that, licenses can be renewed online or by phone. Also grants preference in Deer Management Permit selection. New York resident requirement applies.
