South Carolina totally and permanently disabled veterans can get a full property tax exemption on their primary residence and up to five adjoining acres, plus up to two private passenger vehicles. The exemption applies starting the year the disability occurs, retroactive to 2022. Surviving spouses inherit the same exemption regardless of whether the veteran applied for it.

Restrictions

Apply through MyDORWAY at dor.sc.gov/individuals-property-exemption-application. Processing takes 4-6 weeks. Requires VA letter certifying total and permanent disability with effective date.
