North Carolina Session Law 2025-72 (Senate Bill 118), signed July 9, 2025 and effective July 1, 2025, sets a reduced concealed handgun permit fee for anyone honorably discharged or discharged under general honorable conditions from U.S. military service. The new fee is $45 for an initial permit and $40 for renewal, down from $80 initial and $75 renewal. Applicants must provide a DD-214, a VA Veterans Identification Card, or other documentation satisfactory to the sheriff.
Restrictions
Applies to applications and renewals submitted on or after July 1, 2025. The reduced fee matches what retired law enforcement officers pay. Statute reference: G.S. 14-415.19(a2). Sheriffs' offices may also charge a separate $10 fingerprinting fee.
