Details

New York State waives its sales and use tax on a vehicle bought in another state by someone in active military service, as long as that other state's tax was paid when getting the title. This prevents double-taxation when military members buy a car while stationed out of state and bring it back to New York.

Restrictions

Applies only if the other state's sales, use, excise, usage, or highway use tax was paid when obtaining the title. Military member must be in active service of the United States at time of purchase.
