Motor Vehicle Registration Fee Exemption for Disabled Veterans
Certain disabled veterans in New York State can have their vehicle registration fees and license plate fees waived entirely.
Details
Certain disabled veterans in New York State can have their vehicle registration fees and license plate fees waived entirely. Eligibility is tied to receiving a VA automobile or adaptive equipment grant under federal law, or qualifying for Congressional Medal of Honor or Former Prisoner of War specialty plates.
Restrictions
Eligibility determined by DMV, not based on disability percentage. Must qualify for VA's Automobile and Adaptive Equipment (AAE) grant program. This fee exemption then enables eligibility for the E-ZPass Non-Revenue program (free Thruway tolls).
