New Mexico residents who served in the U.S. Armed Forces and lost, or lost complete use of, one or both legs above the ankle or one or both arms above the wrist, whether during service or from a service-connected cause, are exempt from the Motor Vehicle Excise Tax when purchasing a vehicle.

Restrictions

Must be a New Mexico resident. Applies to the state excise tax on vehicle purchase, not the annual registration fee.
