Details

A nonresident military spouse who is in Hawaii solely to accompany their active-duty service member (stationed in Hawaii under orders) is exempt from Hawaii income tax on wages earned in Hawaii, effective for income tax year 2018 onward under the Veterans Benefits and Transition Act.

Restrictions

Both the service member and spouse must be residents of the same state other than Hawaii. Income from Hawaii sources other than wages may still be taxable.
