Iowa honorably discharged veterans can reduce their home's assessed value by $4,000 for property tax purposes. To qualify, the veteran must have served at least 18 months on active duty (or fewer if discharged due to a service-related injury). The exemption is ongoing once approved by the county assessor.

Restrictions

Apply through your county assessor's office. Exemption amount was updated to $4,000 for assessment years on or after January 1, 2023.
