All military retirement income, including pay from the regular Armed Forces, Reserves, and National Guard, is fully exempt from West Virginia state income tax beginning with tax years on or after January 1, 2019. Survivorship annuities are also exempt to the extent they are included in federal adjusted gross income.

Restrictions

Applies to all uniformed service retirement, including Public Health Service and NOAA Commissioned Corps. Military orders must be resubmitted every year to qualify.
