North Dakota active duty military members, National Guard members, and reservists can subtract all of their military pay from their North Dakota taxable income. This covers federal pay for training, education, mobilization, and bonuses, plus state pay when called to support a state emergency. The deduction became fully available (including Guard/Reserve training pay) starting with tax year 2023.
Restrictions
Claimed on Form ND-1. Combat pay already excluded from federal taxes is not eligible for this additional deduction. A separate line on ND-1 covers each deduction type.
