Maine maintains four state veterans' cemeteries (Augusta, Caribou, and Springvale) where eligible veterans, their spouses, and dependent children are buried at no cost to the family. The state covers the plot, opening and closing, perpetual care, and use of the committal facility. Eligible veterans include honorably discharged active-duty veterans and qualifying National Guard and Reserve members.
Restrictions
Pre-registration is free and encouraged. National Guard members who served at least 20 years are eligible. Funeral home involvement is required for in-ground burials; cremation families may self-arrange. Contact: 207-287-3481.
