Surviving spouses of military service members who died in the line of duty, or whose death resulted from a service-related injury or disease, can exempt 50% of the first $200,000 of their home's actual value from property taxes. The spouse must own and occupy the property as their primary residence, must not have remarried, and must be certified by the Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. Application deadline is July 1 through the county assessor.
Restrictions
Authorized by Colorado Amendment E (2022). Program administered at the county assessor level statewide. Documentation: VA Benefits Summary letter or Department of Defense letter confirming service-related death.
