Veterans who bought their home using pension, military bonus, or insurance money received at discharge can get a partial property tax exemption (generally up to $7,500 of assessed value) on that home. Seriously disabled veterans who received a federal grant for specially adapted housing may qualify for a 100% exemption.

Restrictions

Apply with municipal assessor using Form RP-458. The $7,500 cap applies to general municipal taxes; school taxes excluded unless district opts in. Seriously disabled veterans using federal adaptive-housing grants may receive 100% exemption. Authorized by Real Property Tax Law section 458.
