Kansas residents who are honorably discharged and permanently rated 100% disabled or totally unemployable by the Department of Veterans Affairs can apply for a sales tax exemption card. Starting July 1, 2026, the card exempts up to $24,000 per year in personal purchases from Kansas sales tax. Surviving spouses of eligible veterans retain the exemption until remarriage. Motor vehicles, alcohol, and tobacco are excluded.
Restrictions
Apply at kdor.ks.gov to receive a physical exemption card. Effective July 1, 2026. Enacted via HB 2098 (2024 session laws).
