Details

West Virginia homeowners with a 90-100% combined service-connected disability rating can claim a tax credit on state income taxes equal to the real property taxes they paid on their primary residence. The credit was created by law in 2023 and became claimable starting with the 2024 tax year (filed in 2025). Property taxes must be paid on time (first half before October 1, second half before April 1). Only the primary residence qualifies if the veteran owns multiple properties.

Restrictions

Replaces the older $20,000 homestead property tax exemption. Veterans must also file the homestead exemption form with their County Assessor before October 1 to establish eligibility.
