Veterans with a 100% service-connected disability or VA unemployability determination do not have to pay the annual motor vehicle excise tax on vehicles they own and use for non-commercial purposes. Present a letter from the VA to the city or town where the vehicle is garaged to apply.

Restrictions

Governed by M.G.L. ch. 60A, s.1. Expanded under HERO Act (2024), previously limited to one vehicle, now applies to any vehicle the disabled veteran owns. Apply to your local board of assessors.
