Honorably discharged North Carolina veterans rated 100% permanently and totally disabled by the VA, or those receiving specially adapted housing benefits, can exclude the first $45,000 of their home's assessed value from property taxes. The same exclusion applies to the never-remarried surviving spouse of an eligible disabled veteran, or of a veteran who died from a service-connected condition.

Restrictions

Apply by June 1 each year. Requires Form NCDVA-9 certified at a Veterans Service Office, plus Form AV-9 submitted to the county tax office. Statute: N.C.G.S. 105-277.1C.
