Texas veterans with a service-connected disability rating of at least 60 percent pay nothing for a Texas driver license or state ID card. The fee exemption covers new and renewal transactions.

Restrictions

Requires honorable discharge and disability compensation from the US government. Exemption does not apply to commercial driver licenses (CDL) or to veterans required to register as a sex offender. Veterans with 40%+ disability (40% due to lower extremity amputation) or 50%+ disability can also request a "DISABLED VETERAN" designation on the license at no charge when getting a new or renewal licens
