Details

Rhode Island's 2021 law extending local property tax exemptions to Cold War veterans was strengthened in 2023 to explicitly include National Guard members who served during the Cold War (through 1991). Before 2023, some municipal tax officials were incorrectly denying these exemptions to Guard members. The 2023 fix is now law.

Restrictions

Statute: RI General Law 44-3-4.2. Applies to Cold War service through 1991. National Guard members denied this benefit before 2023 may be able to retroactively claim it. Apply at local tax assessor's office.
