Veterans who served during the Cold War period (September 2, 1945 through December 26, 1991) qualify for a separate property tax exemption on their primary residence in New York State, even if they never served in a combat zone or wartime period.
Restrictions
Apply with municipal assessor using Form RP-458-b. Counties, cities, towns, villages, and school districts must opt in, check with local assessor. Authorized by Real Property Tax Law section 458-b.
